Statement on the 2025 Australian Federal Election Results

Australia’s 2025 federal election has concluded with Labor securing a second term in office, whereby Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will lead a majority government after the party significantly increased its majority. Meanwhile, the Coalition suffered significant losses, with Liberal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton losing his own seat.

In the lead up to the election, Women’s Forum Australia consistently highlighted concerns about the overreach of radical gender ideology in our country, and its devastating impact on the rights and safety of women and girls, the health and wellbeing of vulnerable gender distressed children, and the freedoms of ordinary Australians.

Despite the change in parliamentary numbers, the outcome offers little reassurance for those concerned about these issues, as neither major party has demonstrated a commitment to combat this dangerous ideology and to protect women and children.

If anything, Labor’s refusal to address these issues during its last term and its prioritisation of ‘trans rights’ over the safety of women and children, signals a dark few years ahead.

And despite the Greens reduced influence in the House of Representatives, the party has maintained its influence in the Senate, with party leader Adam Bandt stating, “The Greens are now in sole balance of power in the next parliament…We stand ready in the Senate to make this the most progressive parliament that Australia has seen.”

This is a chilling thought given that the Greens have relentlessly supported the ‘rights’ of men who claim to be women over women and girls, continue to champion harmful medical gender interventions for children and young people, and whose policies are anti-women, anti-children and anti-freedom across a range of issues. It is not difficult to imagine what the Greens’ idea of “the most progressive Parliament that Australia has seen” might look like.

The way in which Labor and the Liberals both failed to address the harms of gender ideology to women and children this election only reaffirms the vital importance of our ongoing work to restore women’s sex-based rights, to put an end to the destructive medical transitioning of children, and to root out gender ideology from our institutions.

We urge the re-elected Labor government to take seriously the concerns of Australians from across the political spectrum on these issues, and we call upon all members of parliament, regardless of party affiliation, to prioritise evidence-based policies that recognise biological sex and safeguard the well-being of all Australians.

The election may be over, but our commitment to defending women, children and biological reality continues with renewed determination.
