Help protect our voice for women and girls.
Facebook censored us for saying that men can’t get pregnant. It’s ludicrous, but it seems to think that this inoffensive, factual statement amounts to hate speech. It doesn’t get much more absurd or Orwellian than this.
The restrictions dramatically impacted our ability to share critical updates about a wide range of issues affecting women and girls, which is why we set up the ‘Women Won’t be Silenced Fund’.
I thought Facebook's actions were outrageous, as did many of you who reached out to me in support, and to tell me your own stories of being censored or cancelled on social media. Well, we sent our story to the media, and after it was published, Facebook restored our deleted post and lifted our restrictions, claiming it had been an “error”.
Getting Facebook to back down in this instance is a fantastic outcome for women, biological reality and freedom of expression, and a win that I am delighted to share with you.
However, I don’t believe we are immune from being censored again.
It is therefore vital that we invest in expanding our reach through other mediums and encourage more people to sign up to the one place that cannot be censored – our own website and email communications. But such growth and outreach takes time and resources.
So, thank you for giving generously today to empower women’s voices and protect our ability to speak out for women and girls on the issues that matter.
I'm so grateful for your support!
Yours for women,
