All around the world, women are being harassed and silenced for voicing their concerns about the impact of harmful gender policies and practices on women’s sex-based rights and the welfare of children.
And it’s happening in Australia too.
I’m asking you to sign this petition today to help those being silenced for speaking up to protect women’s sex-based rights and help the most vulnerable.
Here’s why it’s so important...
Recently, the City of Sydney Council revoked the accommodation grant of the Feminist Legal Clinic (FLC), a charity that provides critical legal services to women.
Many of these women are victims of domestic/sexual violence, poor, disabled, Indigenous, lesbian, Muslim and from other marginalised groups, who require woman-centred support.
So why did Lord Mayor Clover Moore and her Council target this charity legal service for vulnerable women?
Because the Council took issue with material on FLC’s website that raises concerns about the tension between the rights of transgender people and the rights of women and girls, the harmful effect of puberty blockers and hormonal treatments on children, and allowing biological men into women-only spaces.
Despite these concerns being shared by many women, the Council made it clear that it would not tolerate any criticism of anything transgender-related or allow any disagreement with the view that ‘transwomen are women’.
The much-needed legal service which runs on a very limited budget has until 19 August to move out of the office space it has used since 2017 to serve some of the city’s most disadvantaged women.
The Council’s punishing of those it disagrees with should not be tolerated nor simply allowed to slip under the radar.
